100%Alarm is NOT loud enough
This dispenser claims that it has 3 loud alarms, but the alarms are actually very high pitched and not nearly loud enough to remind my 89 year old father to take his meds. He can't hear them even if it is one foot away. Considering who this product is designed to help, it is very poorly designed. The dispensing part does move as advertised, but if it doesn't remind him to take his meds, it doesn't help him much.12/7/2013 8:52 PMWas this review helpful? Yes / No (0/0)
We have found this pill dispenser very helpful in sorting and "dishing out" the pills at proper times. However, after two years it decided not to rotate when it has a full load of pills! Ordered a new one and about the third day of the week, the old one started working again. Have now switched to new one anyway.1/31/2014 2:30 PMWas this review helpful? Yes / No (0/0)
80%Nice item to have
My first contact with this type of product was a couple years ago when my mother was forgetting to take her pills or taking too many. The local Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) loaned us a predecessor of this brand and it helped immensely. However, my mother declined cognitively and when I would refill her pills, I would find she still would forget to take either the morning or evening dose when the dispenser turned. She is extremely hard of hearing and would not hear the alarm.2/7/2014 6:55 AM
I recently ordered two of this Med-E-Lert dispenser (as the brand from the ADRC appears to have been discontinued), one for my mom and the other for the ADRC as it is a super solution to a common problem of the elderly needing help with their meds. Of the two I ordered from Active Forever, one did not work and when I contacted Active Forever, they promptly sent me a replacement and a prepaid shipping label to return the defective unit.
My in-laws are having a similar problem with their elderly parents and they also purchased a Med-E-Lert but I don't know from where. Their unit worked a day or two, then would not rotate. My brother-in-law, being handy, took it apart and found they had some extra part -- he fixed his and it is working now.
The product itself had great instructions on how to set time, alarms, etc. so anyone can set the unit up.
In summary, the pill dispenser is a life saver for families with elderly parents/friends/relatives who need help with their pills. This particular brand appears to possibly have problems but also appears to have the monopoly on availability and is cost effective. It is worth buying from Active Forever as they promptly sent a replacement.
I would encourage interested parties to buy this product with caution regarding possible problems by the manufacturer of the unit, but buying it from Active Forever was an excellent choice with their great service. Was this review helpful? Yes / No (0/0)
