GivMohr Arm Sling
The Giv Mohr Arm Sling is a positioning device for the flaccid upper extremity. Target populations include individuals who are ambulatory or potentially ambulatory with the following diagnoses: CVA, TBI, Brachial Plexus injury, and ALS.
The GivMohr Arm Sling was developed in a collaborative effort between Victoria Givler, OTR and Paul Mohr, PT in response to the lack of appropriate support devices currently on the market.
GivMohr Arm Sling Provides:
- Reduction of subluxation in sitting and standing
- Reduction of shoulder pain
- Dynamic joint compression of shoulder, eblow and wrist during standing and ambulation to facilitate return
- Functional Positioning of upper Extremity for Ambulation
- Retraction and depression of scapula
- Supports head of Humerus in Glenoid
- Humerus held in near neutral rotation
- Elbow held in mild flexion
- Facilitates more symmetrical stride length and allows arm swing during ambulation
To insure proper fit, initial fitting is done by PT or OT. Once sling has been donned, check the following:
- Cross is centered over spine and low between scapula
- Hand grip accommodates contour of hand
- Wrist cross is centered over wrist
- Wrist is in 30 degrees of extension
- Elbow is in 30 degrees of flexion or less
- Elbow strap is 2" distal to olecronon process
- Shoulder approximates neutral (adjust Velcro at buckles)
To put on the GivMohr Arm Sling follow these three easy steps:
1. Place uninvolved arm through the shoulder loop and pull sling behind neck. Adjust the sling so the cross is centered over the spine and low between scapula.
2. Drape the sling over the involved shoulder with the superior strap anterior to the shoulder and the inferior strap posterior to the shoulder.
3. Place grip in hand and pull elbow strap into place.
Please note that when taking off the sling be sure to remove sling from eblow first.
The GivMohr Arm Sling can be worn under clothing.
Available in three sizes:
- Small: 13" - 14"
- Medium: 15" - 16"
- Large: 17" and above
For sizing measure distance between R & L tips of shoulder blades.
