Description

Silvercel Dressing ®

Description

Provides the broad-spectrum antimicrobial action of silver with enhanced exudate management properties of alginate technology. Use as a primary dressing. Alginate forms a gel on contact with exudate. Cover with a non-occlusive secondary dressing. Do not use on third-degree burns or with patients with known sensitivity to silver or alginates.

SILVERCEL Dressing is a sterile, non-woven pad composed of high tensile strength alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and silver coated nylon fibers. Contains elemental silver (8%) as a sustained release formulation. The sustained release of silver aids the dressing in creating an antimicrobial environment. Antimicrobial properties are built-in through the use of X-STATIC Silver Fibers.

Indications

SILVERCEL Dressing is a primary dressing that is an effective barrier to bacterial penetration. The barrier functions of the dressing may help reduce infection in moderate to heavily exuding partial and full-thickness wounds including: pressure ulcers; venous ulcers; diabetic ulcers; donor sites; traumatic and surgical wounds.

Contraindications

SILVERCEL Dressing is not indicated for use on the following:
  • Third-degree burns
  • Patients with a known sensitivity to alginates or silver
  • To control heavy bleeding

Additional Information provided in the package insert

  • For external use only
  • Do not use if individual pouch is damaged/opened
  • Do not re-use/resterilize

Precautions

The dressing may adhere if used on very lightly exuding wounds. If the dressing is not easily removed, moisten it with sterile saline prior to removal. The dressing performance may be impaired by excess use of petrolatum-based ointments.
