The Bard Tracheal Catheter is a sterilized single-use suction catheter designed to help remove bodily secretions out of deep lung areas and airways. It helps draw out bodily secretions like mucus in the airway passages thereby preventing plugging or blocking. This helps prevent further complications like chest infections and facilitate better breathing and respiratory function.
To use it, one end of the catheter is attached to a collection container where all secretions are collected. This container is also usually designed to provide a suction effect to draw the secretions out. The other end of the catheter is placed directly into the tracheal tube or in the mouth to pull out the secretions.
The Bard Suction Catheter is made of rubber to provide gentle removal of secretions without being harsh on the respiratory tissues. A thumb control valve makes it easy to start the suction only when the desired depth is reached. It also helps users pull out the catheter with ease. The catheter also has a whistle tip with two eyes that minimize any damage delicate mucosal tissues and provide an efficient suction. The whistle tip also helps break down debris or clots and drains them out too. The Latex Rubber Catheter is opaque to X-Rays and helps enable better radiological identification that helps healthcare professionals monitor the position of the catheter inside the lungs during the procedure.
