What are Medtronic DAR Pediatric Heat and Moisture Exchangers? These small medical tools help patients who use a machine to breathe or have difficulty breathing to get moisture and heat back into their respiratory system. Trapping the patient’s moisture and heat in the upper airway, the respiratory devices have a moisture output greater than 30 mg H20/L (ISO 9360). They come washed and individually packaged.

The DAR Adult - Pediatric HME Small (Medtronic 353U5413) comes with an end-tidal carbon dioxide port that manages exhaled carbon dioxide. The DAR Adult - Pediatric Foam HME with Integrated Catheter Mount (Medtronic 353U5908) has an extendable connector made of foam that connects easily to a patient’s breathing circuit.

HME media are less ideal for those who have an acute lung injury or thick secretions of mucus.
