Competitor II Semi-Electric Bed without Wheels
Hospital Bed
Competitor II Semi-Electric Bed is compact and durable. The leg rest and back support can be automatically adjusted with a remote. The Competitor basically mirrors many of the patient beds found in hospitals throughout the U.S. Just like some of those beds, this frame comes with a remote pendant (hand remote) that glows in the dark and rests on a frame hook for easy use.
The height is adjustable, both from the leg and the deck. The adjustments can be made at the leg where the height is changed by unscrewing a wing nut and raising and lowering then locking it into place. The deck has a hinge bracket that is lifted or set lower on spaced metal pegs. Each peg has a safety guard that keeps it from disengaging. All of this can be done without tools. The head and foot frame are interchangeable. The motor on the Competitor is self-contained to reduce weight and noise. It can be both assembled and removed with the patient in bed. Instruction on assembly, for both the frame and motor, is described in detail with the user manual that comes with the bed frame.

The Drive Competitor Bed item #15560 comes in ultra-compact carton 36" x 9" x 45". All components come in one carton, including side rails, electronics, and bed ends. Remove contents from the box. Bed comes complete with full side rails and retractable rail sockets to mount rail. Optional half rails are available item #15201BV. The bed will also be available without rails. To attach the head and foot spring, pull the black knob away from the frame and twist the lock open then slide the two sides together. The lock knob is spring-loaded and will lock into position when released and the two sections of the bed are flushed together. Twist to lock together. Lock the cotter pin with the attached clasp. Repeat on the opposite side. The Competitor Bed comes with a hand control that will illuminate when the bed is plugged into a wall outlet or with 9-volt batteries installed in the hand control. The blue light illuminates if there is a working backup battery installed or if the motor is plugged into a working electrical socket. Connect the 9-volt battery, sold separately, to the battery clip in the rear of the hand control. With this battery installed, the motor can be operated to return the sleep surface to the horizontal position in the event of a power failure. Note, before installing motor, plug hand pendant cable into the motor as shown. To install the motor, remove locking caps on top of the motor. Make sure white block is fully retracted. If it is showing, plug the motor into the wall and with the hand control, lower the block until fully retracted. If a block is showing, the motor will not attach to bed frame. Prior to installation, make sure that the two white motor blocks are in the retracted position. With frames still on its side, align the opening on the head end of the motor with the flange on the head section of the bed. Make sure when you attach motors, they are placed on the correct flange, head-to-head and foot-to-foot. Insert the flange into the motor compartment. Align the opening on the foot end of the motor with the flange on the foot section of the bed and insert the flange into the motor compartment. With the palm of your hand, snap the motor flush to the actuator bar. Once in place, replace the motor covers to secure the motor. The Competitor Bed has an optional caster accessory, sold separately, model #15044SET. To install the casters, insert the stem of the caster into the leg receptacle as shown. It is recommended to install non-locking casters on each bed end. The locking casters should be installed diagonally from each other. Adding wheels will alter the height of the bed. Review bed height chart. The chart indicates the height adjustments as they relate to the two adjustment options. The Competitor Bed has two height adjustments. Adjustment 1 is located on the frame as indicated below. There is an upper and a lower position. Adjustment 2 is on the leg of the head and footboard. To adjust, loosen the thumbscrew on the leg and pull on the spring-loaded knob with one hand and slide the leg to the desired height with the other hand. Once the desired position is found, turn the thumbscrew until tight. Adjust other legs to the same position. Attach the headboard to the bed frame. Attach the footboard to the bed frame. Be sure the sleep surface is locked securely to the head footboard as shown. Receiver bracket mounts on the frame to eliminate the need for cross braces. Rail receiver brackets are retractable, ensures proper placement and reduces lost or forgotten components. To install bed rails, lift the head section and find the rail receptacle, located on the frame of the bed as shown. Pull receptacle outward and return head section to the flat position. Turn the receptacle in order to receive the rail. Repeat for all four-rail receptacles. Insert the bed rail into the receptacle. Repeat for the other rail.
