Fibromyalgia - Treatment for Fibromyalgia Pain Relief
Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by widespread pain and sensitivity to pressure in muscle and connective tissue. In addition to pain, fibromyalgia sufferers can experience muscle spasms, nerve pain, weakness in limbs, debilitating fatigue, joint stiffness, and sleep disturbance. Some fibromyalgia patients also complain of difficulty swallowing, numbness and tingling, bowel abnormalities, and cognitive impairment, such as difficulty concentrating and memory loss.
Historically considered to be a musculoskeletal disease or neuropsychiatric condition, fibromyalgia is considered by many in the medical community to be a controversial diagnosis because there is no scientific evidence as to its cause or causes. Fibromyalgia is often referred to as a "non-disease" because there are no objective diagnostic tests for the condition, abnormalities do not show up on physical examination, and the symptoms overlap with other conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome. Affecting 2-4% of the population, fibromyalgia is believed by some to be caused by childhood stress, or prolonged or severe stress. Although there is no cure for fibromyalgia, steps can be taken to treat the symptoms of the condition to make the patient more comfortable and help them enjoy a better quality of life.
Studies have found exercise to be a great treatment for fibromyalgia symptoms. In addition to improving fitness and sleep in those with fibromyalgia, exercise may also reduce pain and fatigue. Even low intensity exercise can be very helpful for fibromyalgia patients. Heating pads and massage therapy have also been found to be a very effective treatment for fibromyalgia pain relief. Use of far infrared (FIR) heating pads allows for greater penetration of soft tissue with soothing heat. Those with fibromyalgia may also prefer home massage therapy products as a way to save money on expensive massage sessions.
While no cure currently exists for fibromyalgia, patients can manage their symptoms through the proper use of pain relief products. Browse this section of products for the best choices of treatment for fibromyalgia pain relief.
