The Hollister Flextend Convex Skin Barrier With Floating Flange and Tape is a pre-cut skin barrier designed to fit different stomas. The skin barrier is a single part of a two-piece pouch system that is used to collect and drain ostomy output from different stomas. The second part of the system is a drainage pouch that the barrier is attached to. The skin barrier is used to protect the skin from the stoma output that may cause irritation and also prevent leakages.
The Hollister Flextend Skin Barrier has a convex shape which makes it suitable for a variety of stomas including flushed, retracted, or recessed stomas. The barrier is designed to be compatible with closed, drainable, or urostomy pouches by New Image with matching flange sizes. The flexed barrier features a floating flange that leaves little spaces between the barrier and the flange end. This space can be used by the patient to place their fingers in while attaching the ostomy pouch. With the fingers in between, no pressure is exerted on the area around the stoma which in turn ensures a comfortable and painless pouch attachment. The floating flange makes the barrier suitable for post-operative abdomens, urostomies, and ileostomies.
