The McKesson Medi-Pak Gauze Sponges are a set of square-shaped sponges that are used to clean or dress wounds or prep skin surfaces for surgeries or other procedures. The sponges are also used to pack wounds.
The gauze sponges have a thick twelve ply construction to provide maximum cushioning to the wound area. The sponges are made of high-grade cotton which is incredibly soft on the skin. The hundred percent cotton material along with the twelve ply construction renders the gauze sponges highly absorbent and hence ideal for exudating wounds. The construction of the sponges also ensures that there are no raw edges exposed which in turn reduce linting. The reduced linting eliminates the risk of contamination that can be caused by infectious bacteria in the lint that may fall out and come in contact with other people. The Medi-Pak Gauze Sponges are packed in convenient peelable pouches for use. Since they are sterilized, the gauze sponges are ready to be used right out of the pack.
The sponges have a latex-free construction which makes them suitable for people with latex allergies. The white color allows patients to visually inspect the amount of exudate absorbed which can also serve as a good indicator for the right time to change the dressing. To avoid cross-contamination, it is recommended to use each gauze sponge once for a single patient only.
