The Nestle Tolerex Liquid Diet is an amino acid based elemental formula that contains free amino acids as a protein source. It provides users with one calorie per milliliter of serving, two percent of which is provided by fats, eight percent by protein and the remaining ninety percent by carbohydrates. This elemental formula is generally preferred as a medical dietary strategy to fulfill essential nutrient demands without pressurizing the patient’s digestive system.
The Nestle Tolerex formula is specially designed to support feeding tolerance in patients with severe gastrointestinal dysfunction including severe malabsorption of protein, fat and other nutrients. The primary source of nutrition in the diet is free amino acids that are light on the digestive system and easiest to be broken down. They require minimum digestive functions, making them easy to absorb and digest.
The Tolerex Formula is safe to be consumed as an oral supplement as well as an enteral feeding formula. It is suitable to be used by people on lactose-free, gluten-free, low-residue and kosher diets. It is important to note that this elemental formula is only appropriate for individuals above the age of three years and should not be used as a diagnostic, treatable or preventive measure.
