Frequently Asked Questions
Do Swim Diapers Protect Against Diarrhea?
While swim diapers are designed to keep solid fecal matter from going into the water, they aren’t absorbent enough to retain diarrhea. According to the Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention, “swim diapers can delay diarrhea-causing germs, like Cryptosporidium, from leaking into the water for a few minutes, but [they] do not keep these germs from contaminating the water.”1 If an individual has diarrhea, they shouldn’t be swimming in a pool in general to avoid the spread of germs.
What Can Be Worn with a Swim Diaper?
Typical bathing clothes can be worn over a swim diaper, such as swim trunks or bikini bottoms. A regular diaper or incontinence pad shouldn’t be worn in the water, as they would absorb the water rather than the leakage.
How Often Should the Diaper be Changed?
A swim diaper should be checked often, typically around every thirty minutes. Ideally, swim diapers should be changed as soon as the leakage occurs. The diaper should then be changed out of and away from the pool or water.
Is a Tighter or Looser Diaper Better?
A tighter diaper is better because less fecal matter will escape from a tighter diaper. While the individual wearing the diaper shouldn’t be uncomfortable, a loose diaper has a greater chance of opening during swimming and spreading germs.
Swim Diapers vs. Disposable Briefs
The main difference between swim diapers like Tranquility Swimmates Adult Swim Diapers and disposable briefs like Tranquility SlimLine Original Disposable Briefs is that swim diapers only protect against fecal matter and disposable briefs protect against various liquids and leakages. Swim diapers aren’t absorbent, which is why they’re designed for swimming. Disposable briefs are designed for daily use. Both are easy to apply and dispose of.
