Which Ramp Design Option Best Fits My Personal Needs?

3G Portable Ramp with Handrails and Loops (With Pickets)

The GATEWAY 3G portable ramp with handrails (picket and loop) is the best option for users who need an additional level of safety to help prevent falls from the ramp. This is a particularly good option for those with children and users with unsteady balance. The picket rails on this option are 4 feet apart, as is typically recommended for standard user safety. For simple and secure installation, picketed insert sections are pre-assembled. The tools needed to install these rails are minimal.

GATEWAY 3G Portable Ramp With Handrails and Loops (No Pickets)

This handrail is a great option for users who need extra stability and safety from the use of handrails while climbing the Gateway 3G Portable Ramp. A lower handrail is also available with this option for an additional gripping option. The list of tools needed to install this option is short and simple. Picket insert sections are pre-assembled for ease of installation.

The GATEWAY 3G Portable Ramp Without Handrails

The ramp without side rails is the easiest of the three options to install as no assembly is required. Simply secure the ramp as wanted and you are ready to go. This ramp is a great fit for those who do not need side rails to move up and down a mobility ramp.

How to Fasten the EZ-Access GATEWAY 3G Portable Ramp to an Entryway (All Ramps)

Caution: For safety, ensure that the ramp’s top lip transition plate is properly fastened to the landing before using the ramp. For more information, consult a contractor.

Note: Install end brackets on the ramp before fastening the ramp to a landing if your ramp includes handrails. See the instructions below.

Step 1

Identify the Gateway 3G ramp’s top lip transition plate by its two pre-drilled holes. Ensure that the entirety of this top transition plate fits onto the landing space and is fully supported by the landing. Place the top transition plate so it extends onto the landing as far as possible.

Step 2

In Case of Temporary Installation:

Use the two pre-drilled holes in the top transition plate as a template to mark the holes’ positions. On these two marked spots, drill two 1/4-inch holes. Make each hole at least 1-1/2 inches deep. Ensure that these holes are free of any debris or deposits before moving onto the next step. Align the ramp’s top transition plate holes with the drilled holes. Finally, insert the clevis pins (included) through each hole.

In Case of a Wood Landing:

Use one 1 x 1/4-inch-long self-drilling, stainless steel wood screw (not included) to fasten the top transition plate into the landing. Drill these two wood screws through the two holes in the transition plate.

In Case of a Concrete Landing:

Lay the top transition plate out in the desired position. Use the two pre-drilled holes in the top transition plate to mark the two screw hole positions on the concrete. Drill a hole into these two marked spots with a 1/4-inch masonry bit. Follow the pin drive anchor’s manufacturing instructions to know the appropriate drill depth. Align the top transition plate holes over the top of the two newly drilled holes. Follow the pin drive anchor’s manufacturing instructions to install the 1-1/2 x 1/4-inch pin drive concrete anchors (not included) into the holes of the upper transition plate.

How to Install the Handrails (Optional)

Note: Skip this step if your ramp does not include handrails. For those who purchased a ramp with handrails, installing either type of handrail entails the same process. There are no additional steps for ramps with picket handrail.

• Step 1: To avoid product damage, place it on grass or cardboard. Lay the ramp upside down on one of these surfaces.
• Step 2: Locate the four end brackets. One end bracket will be installed on each corner of the ramp.
• Step 3: Locate the groove in the ramp side rail. Slide the end bracket of the upper lip into the groove. Align the innermost hole of the end bracket over the threaded insert on the ramp.
• Step 4: Insert one 5/16"-18 x 1-1/2-inch bolt and 5/16"-18 washer per bracket. Use a 1/2-inch socket or wrench to tighten and secure each bracket to the ramp.
• Step 5: Gently tip the ramp into an upright position. Be careful not to damage the ramp studs as you do this. Before continuing to install handrails, attach the ramp to the landing (see the previous topic section on this page).
• Step 6: Slide the handrail vertical posts over the threaded studs.
• Step 7: Locate the two holes on the vertical posts of the handrails. These holes correspond with the threaded studs on the end brackets.
• Step 8: Using one 5/16″ flat washer and one 5/16″-18 nut per stud, attach the end brackets to the posts. (Note: There are two loop sizes. The lower loop is slightly smaller and is used on the bottom of the ramp handrail section, while the upper loop is larger and is used on the top of a ramp handrail section. The lower and upper loops are not interchangeable, but the installation steps for the two are the same. Also, note that the top of the ramp has anchoring holes in the transition plate.)
• Step 9: Locate both the four O-rings and the two upper and two lower-end loops. Place one of the O-rings over the swaged portion of each end loop. Push until the O-ring rests against the loop shoulder.
• Step 10: Install a hex washer head self-drilling screw (1 x 1/4 inch in length) through the hole in the end loop attachment plate and into the vertical post of the handrail.
• Step 11: Repeat this process for each end loop. Securely tighten each one. If the end loop being installed does not fit correctly, ensure you have the correct loop for the location.
• Step 12: To install the protective corner caps, place one cap over each ramp side rail corner both at the bottom and top of the ramp. Construction adhesive is an option for bonding cap and ramp.
